The announcement that millions of gamers were waiting for has taken place: Ukrainian studio 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver released a teaser for the new installment of the Metro series.

As insider Jez Corden previously reported (JezCorden), the game is titled Metro 2039, and its events unfold four years after the finale of Metro: Exodus (2019).

Loud announcement without details

4A Games published only a short teaser of Metro 2039, in which the corresponding date appears on a radiation detector watch, which is one of the symbols of the series.

A full-fledged reveal of the novelty will take place on April 16 at 19:00 (CEST) at the Xbox First Look show, which will also feature several other ambitious games.

Important details were once again shared by Jez Corden. He reported that Metro 2039 will be part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program — a purchased copy of the game can be launched both in the Microsoft Store on PC and on Xbox consoles.

It is expected that the main focus will be on Artyom, and a new protagonist, who will explore a location desired by many — the ruins of Moscow, likely in an open or semi-open world.

The game is being developed in close collaboration with the author of the “Metro” novel series Dmitry Glukhovsky, who, as a reminder, was sentenced in absentia by a Russian court to eight years in prison for his anti-war stance and a fabricated charge described as “dissemination of false information discrediting the Russian army’s actions.”
