After a three-year break, Lenovo officially announced its return to the gaming smartphone market. The new member of the Legion line is set to directly compete with the segment leader — the RedMagic 11 Pro smartphone, which has long held the title of the most powerful Android flagship.

A Long-Awaited Comeback

The brand's last gaming smartphone was the Legion Y70, released back in 2022. Since then, Lenovo has focused on gaming tablets and portable consoles, but a fresh teaser confirms: the company is ready to compete for the wallets of mobile gaming enthusiasts again. The official release of the new product is scheduled for May 2026.

Design and Technical Specifications

Although the full specifications are still kept secret, leaks and official hints allow us to form a first impression of the flagship. It is expected to receive the top Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, putting it on par with the most powerful devices on the market. Lenovo promises "a completely new level of smoothness," hinting at an advanced active cooling system — a critically important feature for competing with RedMagic.

Judging by insider photos from a closed event in China, the new product outwardly resembles the Motorola Edge 70, but with aggressive gaming accents and a large Legion logo on the back panel.

Challenge (Will Be) Issued

The upcoming Lenovo announcement looks like a direct challenge to the Nubia brand. While RedMagic recently faced criticism for benchmark manipulations, Lenovo is focusing on the reliability of its ecosystem and software optimization through HyperOS or an updated version of ZUI.

The return of Lenovo Legion could revitalize the stagnant gaming smartphone market, currently dominated by only a couple of brands. The combination of Lenovo's gaming experience and Motorola's resources could result in a product capable of surprising even the most demanding users.
