Meet HiBreak Dual: The First 5G Smartphone with Dual Screens—E-Ink and Color LCD!
A few months ago, an enthusiast by the nickname Mechanical Pixel surprised the public with the concept of an unusual gadget: instead of a single front display, the device received two screens, moreover of different types: IPS panel and E-ink. It seems that the Chinese company Bigme was inspired by his idea and introduced the first 5G smartphone on the market, which combines a main screen with "electronic ink" and an additional color LCD display on the back panel.
The new product is called HiBreak Dual and is meant to solve the main issue of E-Ink smartphones — slow performance in scenarios that require instant response.
Two screens for different tasks
HiBreak Dual received a main display with a diagonal of 6.13" with an E-Ink Kaleido 3 matrix (in the color version) or a classic black and white panel with support for a 53 Hz frequency. The pixel density is 300 ppi in monochrome mode and 150 ppi in color. The screen is matte, does not glare in sunlight, and supports stylus input (4096 pressure levels).
On the back cover, there is a round 1.85" LCD screen (360x360 pixels). It resembles a watch dial and serves to display time, notifications, control the player, and — most conveniently — works as a viewfinder for the main camera.
Technical stuffing
Unlike many readers, HiBreak Dual received quite peppy hardware:
- MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor with 5G support;
- configurations of 8/128 GB and a powerful version of 12/256 GB are available. There is a microSD slot up to 2 TB;
- full Android 14 with access to Google Play, allowing any apps to be installed;
- main camera 20 MP and 5 MP front camera.
Comfort and functionality
The smartphone is equipped with a quick switch button for screen refresh modes (from slow quality to fast for video). It also features a fingerprint scanner, NFC for payments, Bluetooth 5.2, and dual-band Wi-Fi. The body is made in a strict style with a textured "leather-like" back panel. The smartphone supports two SIM cards.
Price and configurations
Bigme has already opened pre-orders for the new product; the basic version (8/128 GB) costs $360, but there are several more expensive options available depending on the selected configuration.
