Meta Brings Direct Messaging to Threads Web Version: Major Redesign Underway
Meta has begun testing an updated design of the Thread's web version. One of the key innovations is the introduction of direct messages, which were previously available only in the mobile app since June 2025.
What is known
The updated interface received a revised navigation structure. The left panel adds quick access to saved posts, activity section, statistics, and various feeds. Some of these features were already available in the web version, but access to them remained limited or hidden in additional tabs.
The web version also features a separate inbox section for direct messages. Previously, users could work with DMs only through the mobile app since the website did not offer this feature.
Exact launch dates for the redesign have not yet been announced, but Meta has confirmed that testing is already underway, and the company plans to intensify the development of the web direction. The last significant update to the Threads site occurred in April last year, after which the focus shifted to the mobile version. Simultaneously, the company is testing changes in the display of replies in the app.
