Google has announced an update to the AI Mode in Google Chrome, which simplifies work with a large number of tabs and improves interaction with web pages. The new features have already started rolling out for users in the US, and will later appear in other countries.

What is known

The main change is the introduction of an interface with screen splitting. Now, when following a link, AI Mode opens the page next to the chat assistant. This allows you to view the site and ask questions simultaneously, without losing the context of the previous search. In fact, the system "remembers" why the user opened a particular page and can respond without clarifying the details.

For example, when choosing a product, such as a coffee maker, the user can go to the manufacturer's site and immediately ask AI Mode about the ease of cleaning or other characteristics without specifying the model name. The assistant, in this case, understands which product is being referred to.

The update also adds the ability to consider already open tabs or their groups during a new search. For this, simply use the updated Plus menu, where the corresponding option has appeared. In addition, AI Mode can now analyze not only tabs but also additional materials — images and PDF files.

According to the company, during testing, users switched between tabs less often and focused better on tasks. Google notes that this is part of a broader strategy to integrate practical AI features into the browser.
