Several important clarifications about the upcoming remake of one of the most popular parts of the Assassin's Creed series — Black Flag — have appeared online, proving that the project, which will receive the subtitle Resynced, promises to be much more than just a graphical update.

The game will be officially presented tomorrow — April 23, and in the meantime, Insider Gaming has revealed the main features of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced in a series of articles.

A full-fledged remake, not a remaster

As reported by Tom Henderson, Ubisoft is preparing a full-fledged remake on a modern engine. The developers are not limiting themselves to enhancing textures: the combat system and mission structure have been completely reworked. This is being done to make the project feel relevant compared to the latest parts of the franchise while preserving the spirit of the original pirate adventure. Battles will become more dynamic, brutal, and tactical, and in missions where the protagonist's detection led to failure, there will now be options for further development, albeit with some gameplay complications.

The modern world remains in the game

One of the main topics of discussion was the fate of the segments set in the present day (Abstergo office). There were rumors that Ubisoft might completely get rid of these episodes to keep players focused on naval battles. However, as Henderson reports, the modern world hasn't been cut out but reworked.

The developers are striving to make these segments more dynamic and less irritating by changing their presentation to better fit the updated pace of the game.

No multiplayer and storyline DLC

There are also some bad news for part of the community: Black Flag Resynced will not include multiplayer, which was a hallmark of the original. Additionally, according to Henderson, the remake will not include the storyline expansion Freedom Cry, whose main character was Adewale — a runaway slave and Edward's first mate on the ship. Ubisoft has decided to focus all resources on Edward Kenway's main story and its expansion to update the game's central part as thoroughly as possible. Even with good sales of the remake, Ubisoft does not plan to release an updated version of Freedom Cry.

What else is known

The main technical feature is expected to be the seamless transition between sailing and land, as well as significantly improved water physics. Black Flag Resynced will add RPG elements, increase the influence of weather conditions, and the protagonist will be able to keep a monkey or a cat as a pet on the ship.
