Elon Musk's XChat Hits iOS: Encrypted Messaging with a Privacy Twist

There is now one more encrypted messenger on Apple mobile devices: the new XChat app is officially available in the AppStore, which previously replaced direct messages in the Twitter/X web version.

What is known

Functionally, XChat is most reminiscent of Telegram — Elon Musk positioned it as an encrypted private messenger, although the AppStore states that the app requests access to a large amount of user data, including information about geolocation, search history, and contacts.

Let's recall the key features of the messenger:

  • default end-to-end E2E chat encryption;
  • disappearing messages;
  • video calls;
  • group chats;
  • blocking attempts to take screenshots of conversations.

There is currently no option to create custom stickers in XChat, but given Musk's eccentricity, you can be sure that this feature will appear soon.

It is not yet known whether the new messenger will be released on Android devices, but it is likely just a matter of time.
