Hogwarts Legacy is available to claim for free on the Epic Games Store until May 3, 2026 — and once you grab it, it's yours to keep. Epic is offering the game to mark the 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter film, released in 2001. The deadline is 4 PM UTC on May 3, so you have a narrow window.

What you're getting

Hogwarts Legacy launched in February 2023 and became one of the biggest RPGs of that year. Despite some criticism of its open-world padding, the game sold 40 million copies across all platforms — PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. It puts you in Hogwarts as a student in the 1800s, well before the events of the books, and lets you explore the castle, attend classes, and fight dark wizards.

Hogwarts Legacy is free to claim on Epic Games Store until May 3, 2026.

This is the second time Epic has given the game away — the first was a surprise drop in December 2025. The current giveaway was not officially announced by Epic; deal trackers like GG.deals spotted it first.

PC only — consoles cost extra

The free claim is PC-only through the Epic Games Store. Console players on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or Nintendo Switch still need to buy it. Worth noting: if you already subscribe to PlayStation Plus Extra, the game is included there too, so check before you claim on PC out of habit.

Bigger Harry Potter picture

The giveaway lands at an interesting moment for the franchise. A sequel, Hogwarts Legacy 2, is in active development at Warner Bros., which has made it a priority project. On top of that, HBO Max's new Harry Potter TV series — an adaptation of the first book, The Philosopher's Stone, with an entirely new cast — premieres on December 25, 2026, per Wikipedia).

If you've never played Hogwarts Legacy, claiming it now costs nothing and puts you ahead of what's shaping up to be a busy stretch for the franchise. Head to the Epic Games Store before 4 PM UTC on May 3.
