If you own a Galaxy S26, S26+, or S26 Ultra in the US or UK, Samsung's next major software update is available to try right now. The company has kicked off the One UI 9 beta — built on Android 17 — for Galaxy S26 owners in six markets: the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, India, and South Korea. Enrollment is open through the Samsung Members app.

What's new

One UI 9 lands with a set of genuine updates across several areas. Samsung Notes picks up decorative tapes and a wider selection of pen styles for handwritten notes. The Contacts app now connects to Creative Studio, Samsung's built-in image-editing suite. Quick Settings gets a redesign, and notification controls are more granular than before.

On the accessibility side, a new Text Spotlight feature enlarges on-screen text for low-vision users without disrupting the rest of the layout. Security gets a bump too — the OS now warns users when an app is flagged as high-risk before installation.

Additional AI features are part of the plan, but Samsung Newsroom confirms those will roll out with the stable release rather than the beta.

When does everyone else get it

The stable version of One UI 9 is expected in July 2026, timed to the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8. That foldable-first rollout is consistent with how Samsung has handled major Android updates in recent years — flagships in the beta wave, then a broader push once the foldables ship.

For S26 owners in the US and UK who want in early, the beta is the fastest path. Bear in mind that beta software can be buggy and may affect daily use, so it's worth weighing that before enrolling. As 9to5Google notes, the more advanced AI capabilities are being held back for the stable build — so the beta is more about getting a feel for the interface changes than unlocking new intelligence features.

The bigger picture

One UI 9 is Samsung's first major interface built around Android 17, and the S26 series is the only hardware getting beta access right now. Owners of Galaxy S25 and older devices will need to wait for the stable release — and likely longer still for their own update push, which Samsung typically stages over several months after the initial rollout.
