Redmi Turbo 5 is just a Poco X8 Pro with a different name — and it's heading global
Xiaomi is preparing to release the Redmi Turbo 5 outside China — and if the phone looks familiar, that's because it essentially is. The handset launched in China in January 2026 and is now confirmed for India via an Amazon.in listing marked "coming soon." The catch: the Turbo 5 is the same phone as the Poco X8 Pro, just sold under a different name in different markets.
Two names, one phone
This is deliberate Xiaomi strategy, not an accident. The Redmi Turbo 5 becomes the Poco X8 Pro for global markets, and the larger Turbo 5 Max becomes the Poco X8 Pro Max. Xiaomi operates multiple sub-brands — Redmi, Poco, Xiaomi itself — and uses them to occupy as many retail shelf positions as possible at once. For shoppers, it creates genuine confusion. Per 91mobiles, India is getting the Redmi branding this time rather than Poco, which breaks the pattern of previous Turbo-series launches — a sign that Xiaomi is actively reshuffling its brand hierarchy.
The specs
The hardware underneath the naming maze is genuinely competitive. The Turbo 5 runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra chip — a capable mid-range processor that handles everyday tasks and gaming without major thermal issues. The display is a 6.59-inch OLED panel with 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 3,500 nits, which means it stays readable in bright sunlight.
Battery life is where the Chinese version stands out: a 7,560 mAh cell, backed by 100W wired charging and 27W wireless. Two days of use on a single charge is a realistic expectation. The camera setup is a 50MP primary and an 8MP ultrawide — functional rather than flagship-grade. The phone ships with Android 16 and Xiaomi's HyperOS 3, and carries IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance with a metal frame.
The battery cut
Global buyers should note one meaningful difference. As PhoneArena reports, the international Poco X8 Pro variant is expected to ship with around 6,500 mAh — roughly 1,060 mAh less than the Chinese version. The reduction is linked to EU battery compliance rules rather than any design change. It's still a large battery by any standard, but worth knowing if you were drawn in by the headline figure.
Availability and price
The Chinese base price is CNY 1,999 (around $287 / £225). No US availability is planned — Xiaomi has no meaningful retail presence there. In the UK and wider EU, the phone is expected to arrive as the Poco X8 Pro in Q2–Q3 2026, likely through Amazon and third-party retailers. No pre-orders have been confirmed at UK retailers yet.
