Microsoft's next two Xbox controllers just leaked — a Wi-Fi cloud streamer and Elite Series 3

Two unannounced Xbox controllers are now public knowledge, thanks to an accidental filing by Brazilian regulator Anatel on May 14. The Brazilian outlet Tecnoblog first published images from the documents. Microsoft hasn't commented, but the regulatory source leaves little doubt both devices are real — and an official reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7 looks likely.

The cloud streamer

The first controller is built specifically for Xbox Cloud Gaming. Its defining feature is built-in Wi-Fi 6, supporting both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Instead of routing input through a phone or PC over Bluetooth, it connects directly to Xbox servers — the same approach Amazon Luna and Google Stadia used to cut latency. In practice, that means faster response times when streaming games, which Bluetooth simply can't match.

The design is compact, roughly 130 mm wide, with a standard dual-thumbstick layout and USB-C charging. The battery is a 500 mAh rechargeable cell rather than the AA batteries most Xbox controllers still use. Pricing hasn't been confirmed, but a $59–79 range would fit Microsoft's entry-level positioning, per Windows Central.

Elite Series 3

The second controller is for the premium end. Elite Series 3 succeeds the Elite Series 2, which has sold at $179.99 since 2019. The new model drops the AA battery slot in favour of a built-in 1528 mAh rechargeable pack — smaller in capacity than the Series 2's removable option, which raises questions about runtime in cloud mode specifically. That's an open question until Microsoft publishes official specs.

The physical changes are substantial. Elite 3 gets a revised D-pad, a new connection button, and two scroll wheels on the underside — their exact function is unclear from the leak. Crucially, The Verge reports a cloud/local mode toggle, meaning this controller handles both local play and direct cloud streaming, unlike the cheaper companion model. Expect a price in the $180–200 range based on the Elite 2 precedent.

What to expect on June 7

Both controllers are unconfirmed by Microsoft, but Anatel filings are a reliable pre-launch signal — the regulator requires certification before any wireless device ships in Brazil. The Xbox Games Showcase on June 7 is the obvious moment to announce both. No release dates or final pricing have leaked alongside the hardware specs.
