Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Wide: key specs revealed ahead of July 22 launch

Samsung's next foldable phones are coming July 22 at a Galaxy Unpacked event in London, and the key specs for both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide have now leaked via Greek tech outlet Techmaniacs. The standard Fold 8 is expected to carry a $1,999 base price — the same as the Z Fold 7 — while the Wide variant is estimated in the $2,200–$2,300 range, per PhoneArena. Pre-orders are expected to open the same day as the announcement, with retail availability likely around July 31–August 7 through Samsung.com, Verizon, AT&T;, T-Mobile, and Best Buy.

The standard Fold 8

The Z Fold 8 carries over the same display sizes as its predecessor — a 6.5-inch outer screen and an 8-inch inner panel — and runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the same chip inside the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The phone unfolds to just 4.1mm thick and weighs around 210g.

The camera system gets one meaningful upgrade: the ultrawide jumps from 12MP to 50MP, closing a longstanding gap with Samsung's S-series flagships. The main 200MP sensor stays put, and both 10MP selfie cameras carry over unchanged.

The bigger wins are under the hood. Battery capacity grows from 4,400mAh to 5,000mAh, and wired charging speed doubles from 25W to 45W — both confirmed by regulatory filings, per SamMobile. Those two changes directly address the Z Fold 7's most common complaints: middling endurance and slow top-ups.

The new Z Fold 8 Wide

The Wide is Samsung's answer to the Huawei Pura X Max and Apple's rumored foldable — a phone that opens to a squarer, tablet-like shape rather than the tall rectangle of the standard Fold.

The inner display measures 7.6 inches at a 4:3 aspect ratio (earlier leaks had suggested 16:10). The outer screen is 5.4 inches. There's no telephoto lens here: the Wide carries a dual-camera setup with a 50MP main and a 50MP ultrawide, and Samsung reportedly decided a 200MP sensor wasn't needed given the wider display use case. Battery sits at 4,800mAh with 45W charging.

What to expect at launch

Both phones will be shown alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8 on July 22. US carriers have pre-announced trade-in offers of $600–$1,000 on qualifying devices. The Wide variant's exact pricing and full regional rollout haven't been officially confirmed yet, so treat the upper-range estimates as ballpark figures until Samsung makes it official.
