Xiaomi Launches 10-Year AC Warranty in China — and Hints at Global Expansion
Xiaomi has rolled out a new extended warranty program called MiCare for large home appliances in China, offering up to 10 years of coverage on air conditioners — a claim that dwarfs the 2–5 year terms typical from Daikin, LG, and Panasonic. The program launched with a 50% discount promotion running May 20 to June 21, with entry-level packages starting at around 54 CNY (roughly $8). For now, it's a China-only offer, though MWC 2025 global expansion plans signal that international markets — likely EU and Southeast Asia first — could follow later in 2025.
The coverage
The AC warranty is the headline act. Xiaomi is offering a 10-year plan that covers accidental damage alongside standard faults, plus free cleaning and servicing for the first two years. Regular filter maintenance is one of those things most people only think about when the unit starts making alarming noises, so bundling it in has real practical value.
For washing machines and fridges, the terms are more modest but still competitive: 4, 5, or 6-year full warranties with accidental damage protection and a professional cleaning service included. Televisions get 3, 4, or 5-year plans — useful cover given how expensive modern OLED and QLED panels are to replace after an accidental knock.
All of it ties into the Mi Home app, which handles device registration and warranty claims. That ecosystem lock-in is clearly part of the strategy: keep customers inside the Xiaomi platform long after the initial purchase.
What this means outside China
For US and UK buyers, the honest answer is: not much yet. Xiaomi does not sell air conditioners or large appliances in either market as of mid-2026, and no timeline has been announced for changing that. MiCare smartphone protection does exist in the UK through an Allianz partnership, covering accidental damage and screen repairs — but appliance coverage remains China-exclusive.
The 10-year warranty vs. competitors claim is eye-catching, though it hasn't been verified by independent testing. In Europe, Xiaomi's Mijia Pro Eco AC range (€599–€699, A+++ rated) is already available in Germany, France, Spain, and Italy — making those markets the most likely candidates for an eventual MiCare appliance rollout. Anglo-American markets look further out still.
