Infinity Ward officially confirms Modern Warfare 4 — no PS4, no Game Pass at launch

Modern Warfare 4 is officially the next Call of Duty title, confirmed by Infinity Ward studio heads Mark Grigsby and Jack O'Hara in a post on social media. The pair described a "relentless" experience built around the studio's attention to detail and quality — and signaled that the marketing campaign is about to begin. A full reveal is set for June 4, 2026, during Game One of the NBA Finals, a slot Activision has used repeatedly to launch new entries in the franchise.

Current-gen only

Modern Warfare 4 will not support PS4 or Xbox One, as confirmed by GameSpot. The game targets PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. That cuts off a large installed base still on last-generation hardware, but it gives Infinity Ward room to build without the technical constraints of a 2013-era console.

No Game Pass on day one

Microsoft changed its Game Pass policy in April 2026, and new Call of Duty titles are no longer guaranteed to land on the subscription service at launch. Modern Warfare 4 will reportedly arrive on Game Pass roughly a year after release — around late 2027. That's a notable shift: Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard was partly sold to regulators on the promise that Call of Duty would remain widely accessible, and day-one Game Pass was central to that argument. For Xbox players who have been gaming through Game Pass, this means paying full price at launch or waiting.

October window, before GTA 6

Reliable leaker CharlieIntel, via GameRant, puts the release window in October 2026 — one month ahead of GTA 6's expected November arrival. That timing is likely deliberate: Activision will want Modern Warfare 4 to establish itself before the biggest release of the console generation lands. The campaign setting, rumored to involve the Korean Peninsula, has not been officially confirmed and is expected to be detailed at the June 4 reveal.

No regional pricing has been announced yet. Based on recent Call of Duty releases, a standard edition in the $69.99–$79.99 range is likely, with premium variants to follow.
