Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced the start of construction of a robotic plant for the production of smartphones with the symbolic name Black Light Factory.

What will it produce?

In fact, the first stage of "smart" production was launched as early as last August. As a matter of fact, during the first stage of the project, the company studied and worked out the possibility of operating automatic lines without human participation or with minimal human participation. This was a robot factory for the production of smartphones with a capacity of one million devices per year.

The second phase involves the construction of an automatic production facility with a capacity of 10 million smartphones per year. The company recently obtained land use rights and immediately began construction. Both factories are located in two districts of Beijing.

The new factory will be fully robotic, which means that it will operate 24 hours a day, without breaks, weekends and holidays. Every three seconds, one smartphone will come off the conveyors, and robots will assemble, test and package it. The plant is expected to generate at least 60 billion yuan ($9.3 billion) a year.

The new automatic production facility is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2023.
