Samsung's new QD-OLED panel delivers 4K and 360Hz at the same time

Samsung Display has announced the world's first QD-OLED panel that runs 4K resolution and 360Hz refresh rate simultaneously — a combination that has eluded monitor makers until now. The 31.5-inch panel will make its public debut at Computex 2026 (June 2–5), with mass production scheduled for the second half of 2026. That puts finished monitors on shelves by Q4 2026 at the earliest.

The tradeoff it fixes

Until now, high-refresh OLED gaming monitors forced a choice: drop to 240Hz to keep 4K, or drop to 1440p to reach 360Hz. The MSI MPG 321URX runs 4K at up to 240Hz for around $600–700; the Alienware AW2725DF hits 360Hz but only at 1440p for around $800. Samsung's new panel sidesteps both compromises in a single 31.5-inch screen.

According to the Samsung Display official press release, the panel also carries a Dual Mode option: drop to 1080p and the refresh rate climbs to 680Hz, with DisplayHDR True Black 600 certification maintaining deep blacks throughout. A new V-stripe pixel structure is designed to improve text clarity — relevant for anyone who also uses a gaming monitor as a daily driver.

What this means for buyers

Samsung Display says it is in supply talks with more than 10 global brands. ASUS, MSI, and Gigabyte are the most likely launch partners — ASUS currently holds 24% of the OLED monitor market and MSI sits at 12.2%, per a PC Gamer market share report (Q1 2026) citing Trendforce data. OLED monitor shipments grew 78% year-on-year in Q1 2026, so demand is clearly there.

No retail monitor models or prices have been announced yet. Based on where premium OLED panels currently land — flagship LG WOLED monitors run close to $2,000 — expect a significant price tag when the first 4K/360Hz screens arrive. That said, increased panel supply from Samsung Display tends to push prices down across the board over time.

The outlook

Computex announcements from ASUS and MSI could follow within weeks of Samsung's panel reveal. If mass production stays on track, the first monitors with this panel should be available in the US and UK before the end of 2026 — making it a realistic, if premium, upgrade target for the holiday shopping season.
