Samsung is bringing Galaxy S26 AI features to the S25 ahead of schedule

Samsung Galaxy S25 owners are getting a meaningful software upgrade before the S26 even arrives. One UI 8.5, which began its stable rollout on April 30 in South Korea and expanded globally between May 4–11, carries AI notification features that were originally reserved for next year's flagship line. If you own an S25, S25+, or S25 Ultra, this update is worth paying attention to.

The notification upgrade

The headline additions are Priority Notifications and Summarize Notifications — two AI tools designed to cut through the noise of a busy lockscreen.

Priority Notifications uses on-device machine learning to surface genuinely urgent messages, separating them from the stream of social alerts and marketing pings that fill most people's notification shade. It attempts to read context, not just timestamp.

Summarize Notifications handles the catch-up problem. Miss an hour of a group chat or a busy work thread? The system auto-generates a short digest of what you actually need to know — no manual scrolling required. Samsung has been building toward this kind of integration within Galaxy AI for a while, but embedding it directly in the notification panel is a step up. Both features currently process on-device, though Samsung specifies that capability is limited to English and Korean in this build.

What else is coming

Also confirmed in One UI 8.5: Now Nudge, a context-aware suggestion system that watches your screen and offers relevant action prompts in real time. A revamped Finder tool for faster on-device content search is also expected.

One feature mentioned in early leaks — a 24MP camera mode sitting between the existing 12MP quick-shoot and 50MP full-resolution options — has not been confirmed in any official Samsung release notes or English-language beta changelogs. Treat that one as unverified for now.

The broader significance here is worth noting. Samsung is demonstrating that a flagship phone bought in early 2025 will still get substantive new capabilities in mid-2026, not just security patches. That's a direct answer to critics who argued annual Galaxy upgrades were becoming incremental.

Rollout timing

SamMobile has tracked the stable release closely. US carrier builds on Verizon, AT&T;, and T-Mobile typically lag the global rollout by one to two weeks, so expect the update to hit carrier-locked S25 units around May 12–15. Unlocked variants should already be seeing the prompt. Check Settings → Software update to pull it manually.
