Grim Dawn's final expansion launches July 23 with a new class, 60+ bosses, and no Xbox date

Crate Entertainment has dated Grim Dawn's third and final expansion: Fangs of Asterkarn arrives July 23, 2026, on PC for $18.99. The studio announced the add-on back in 2023 for a 2024 release, but scope growth pushed it back. Now confirmed, it's the largest chunk of content the game has ever received — and it's arriving only on PC for now, leaving Xbox owners without a timeline.

The new content

Fangs of Asterkarn adds a snowy region stretching over 6 sq km, expanding Grim Dawn's total world size by 32%. The tenth playable mastery, the Berserker (a werewolf-style class), joins the roster and pushes available dual-class combinations to 45. Beyond that: 60+ bosses, roughly 50 quests across three factions, two new roguelike dungeons, a hardcore Ascendant mode, 250+ unique items, and 30 extra Crucible waves.

Two new systems round out the expansion. A potion customization mechanic lets players brew stronger effects tailored to their build. Affix transmutation allows bonuses on rare and magic gear to be swapped out — a meaningful quality-of-life addition for the game's notoriously deep loot system.

The free update

Every Grim Dawn player gets something on July 23 regardless of whether they buy the expansion. The free v1.3 patch introduces WASD movement — a first for the game, which has always relied on mouse clicks — alongside HDR support, a UI overhaul, balance changes, and a stash expansion. For a 10-year-old title, it's a substantial sendoff update.

Xbox in the cold

Grim Dawn has been available on Xbox One and Xbox Series for years, and Crate's original 2023 announcement pointed toward a simultaneous console release for Fangs of Asterkarn. The July 23 announcement makes no mention of Xbox at all — no date, no explanation, per WCCFtech. Console players will have to wait for a separate announcement.

The expansion is available to wishlist and pre-purchase now on Steam. With PCGamesN noting the base game sits at 95% positive Steam reviews after a decade, Crate is sending Grim Dawn out on solid ground — at least for the PC crowd.
