Cash App's $25 magic wand sold out in hours — and it actually pays for things

Cash App just launched a pearlescent, star-shaped keychain that works as a debit card — and all 10,000 units sold out within hours of going live on June 4. The $25 accessory, called Cash App Wand, links to your existing Cash App Card and taps to pay at any Visa contactless terminal. No Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth, no minimum balance required.

The wand itself

The Wand is a small NFC-enabled keychain you clip to your bag or keys. To activate it, you tap it against your phone inside the Cash App, and it pairs to your account. After that, you pay by holding it near a card reader — the same way you'd tap a phone or a contactless card. It comes with 24/7 fraud monitoring, the same coverage already on Cash App Card.

It's the first product in a new line called Cash App Tags — physical NFC accessories that Block plans to release as limited drops throughout summer 2026. Future formats, according to Block's hardware lead Thomas Templeton, will include jewelry and clothing.

A TikTok trend turned product

The concept didn't come from a boardroom. Teens on TikTok had already been hiding tap-to-pay cards inside homemade magic wands, turning a mundane checkout moment into something shareable. Cash App noticed, and built a polished version of the joke.

The demographic math backs the move. One in five US teens already carries a Cash App Card, per BusinessWire. Separately, 38% of Gen Z buy limited-edition collectibles every month. A $25 payment accessory that doubles as merch sits squarely at that intersection.

What it means for Block

The Wand is the latest step in Block's push to lock in younger users early. The company opened teen accounts in 2021, launched a kids' debit card in April 2026, and is now selling hardware collectibles. The sold-out launch — however small the initial run — signals real demand for payment accessories that are meant to be seen rather than hidden in a wallet.

The Wand is available through the Cash App app for Card holders aged 13 and up. The first drop is gone, but more limited releases are confirmed for summer 2026. Whether Block can maintain the hype across multiple drops is the question worth watching.
