DOOM: The Dark Ages is getting its first — and likely only — expansion on July 7, 2026. Announced at Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Revelations lands on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Battle.net, continuing the story of the DOOM Slayer well past the events of the base game. The expansion costs $19.99 standalone, or $34.99 as an upgrade to the Premium Edition — and if you already bought Premium, you get it free.

The new weapon

The biggest mechanical change is the Chain Spear, which replaces the Shield Saw as the Slayer's left-hand tool. Where the base game leaned into a grounded, armor-heavy style — Game Director Hugo Martin called the philosophy "Iron Tank" — Revelations pushes in a more mobile direction. Per GameSpot, the spear works as a grappling hook, lets you yank demons toward you, and opens up platforming options the base game largely avoided. You also cycle between different spear tips mid-combat to maximize damage output — a layer of mechanical depth that addresses community feedback about agility in Dark Ages.

The setup

The Slayer, wounded and betrayed, has to fight his way out of a mental prison. Khan Maykr — last seen in DOOM Eternal — returns as a key figure, according to Insider Gaming, alongside new demon types and deeper environmental puzzles set across frozen hellscapes rather than the volcanic terrain of the main campaign.

The scale

Martin has previously described Revelations as "enormous" and comparable in scope to a separate sequel — a strong claim for a single expansion. The base game reached 3 million players in its first week, per Wikipedia, making it the fastest-adopted id Software release ever — seven times quicker than DOOM Eternal. Bethesda is also shipping a free Ripatorium 3.0 update alongside the DLC for all players, expanding endgame challenge content regardless of whether you buy Revelations.

Game Pass

Revelations is included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass Premium tiers, consistent with how Microsoft has handled first-party content since the Bethesda acquisition. If you're already subscribed, there's nothing extra to buy.
