Marshall Stockwell III: 40-hour battery, replaceable parts, same retro look

Marshall has launched the Stockwell III, a portable Bluetooth speaker that doubles the battery life of its predecessor to over 40 hours on a single charge. The Stockwell II managed 20 hours — already decent — so this is a meaningful step up. More unusually for a consumer speaker at this price, Marshall has made the battery, grille, carry strap, and silicone case all user-replaceable.

The hardware

Total amplifier power jumps from 60W to 127W — a 65W subwoofer paired with two 31W full-range drivers — pushing maximum volume from 80 dB to 86 dB, which is roughly double the perceived loudness. The water and dust rating improves from IPX4 to IP55, meaning it handles light jets of water rather than just splashes: better suited to outdoor use.

The speaker retains Marshall's familiar guitar-amp aesthetic, with a brass control panel for track switching, preset launching, and EQ adjustments. A faux-leather strap is included for carrying. Weight stays under 1.4 kg. True Stereophonic 360° sound and Dynamic Loudness — which adjusts bass, mid, and treble balance as you change volume — carry over from the previous model.

Repair-first design

The modular build is the real talking point. User-swappable components put the Stockwell III ahead of most rivals in the premium portable segment, and the timing isn't accidental: EU and UK right-to-repair expectations are tightening. As Trusted Reviews notes, this is the first major Stockwell update in seven years, and repairability is front and centre.

The speaker also supports LE Audio and Auracast — a newer Bluetooth standard that allows audio sharing across multiple devices — adding some future-proofing to what is otherwise a straightforward hardware upgrade.

Price and availability

The Stockwell III is priced at £199.99 in the UK and $249.99 in the US. Online orders open on August 18, with selected retail outlets stocking it from August 25. T3 points out this positions Marshall squarely against Bose, JBL, and Sonos in the premium portable segment — but the repair-first angle is a genuine differentiator if longevity matters to you.
