ViewSonic's new 24-inch 4K gaming monitor hits 160 Hz — but good luck buying one

ViewSonic has announced what it calls the world's first 24-inch 4K gaming monitor running at 160 Hz, but buyers outside China will have to wait — no US, UK, or European launch date or pricing has been announced. The monitor, the VX24G26J-4K, sits in ViewSonic's budget-oriented VX line and is currently listed only on the company's Chinese website at 2,199 RMB, roughly $306 before tax, per VideoCardz.

The specs

The panel is a 23.8-inch Fast IPS with a 3840×2160 resolution, delivering a pixel density of around 185–188 PPI — sharper than a typical 27-inch 4K display, which lands closer to 163 PPI. The refresh rate is 160 Hz, and ViewSonic claims a 1 ms GtG response time. Color coverage reaches 100% sRGB and 95% DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB, making it a reasonable candidate for photo and video editing alongside gaming.

Brightness tops out at 400 nits in SDR mode, with a 1000:1 contrast ratio and VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification. The monitor supports both AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync. Its glossy coating — ViewSonic calls it Nano Obsidian Screen — is rated at just 1.8% reflectance, which should cut glare better than most matte panels.

Connectivity is straightforward: one DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.1, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is no USB-C port, which is an increasingly common omission on budget monitors. The stand adjusts for height, tilt, swivel, and portrait pivot.

The catch

A 24-inch 4K display sounds compelling on paper, but PC Gamer notes that driving 4K at 160 Hz demands a high-end GPU — think RTX 4080 territory — which complicates the value case when the monitor itself is priced as a budget option. The sharp pixel density is a genuine advantage for creative work, but competitive gamers may find a 27-inch 1440p panel more practical for the money.

A broader release is expected sometime in 2026, but ViewSonic has not committed to a specific date or regional price for the US or UK. For now it remains a China-only launch worth keeping an eye on.
