Apple's Bold Move: Skipping M6 Pro and Max for AI-Powered M7 Chips by 2027
Apple is considering changing its development strategy for its own processors and skipping the release of M6 Pro and M6 Max chips. Instead, the company may immediately move to the M7 generation, which will primarily focus on local artificial intelligence functions. Bloomberg's journalist Mark Gurman reported this.
What is known
In the event of a strategy change, the M6 may remain the only chip of its generation without more powerful Pro and Max versions. If the information is confirmed, it will be the first time Apple releases only the basic modification of the M series processor.
It is expected that M7 chips will debut in the first half of 2027. By the end of the year, Apple may also introduce the M7 Pro and M7 Max, and in 2028 — the M7 Ultra. The new generation of processors, according to Bloomberg, will focus on performing artificial intelligence functions directly on the device. AI and the updated Siri were the main topics of the WWDC 2026 conference.
At the same time, it is still unknown whether the strategy change will affect other company products. It was previously reported that the first touchscreen MacBook Pro could receive the M6 chip. By the end of 2026, Apple is expected to present the basic M6 processor for more affordable MacBook models. The company has not officially commented on this data.
