GTA VI May Be Coming to Switch 2 — But Don't Hold Your Breath
GTA VI launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026 — but a Switch 2 version may quietly be in the works too. Multiple insiders now claim Rockstar has overcome the technical barriers to running the game on Nintendo's hybrid console, with a potential 2027 release window. Neither Rockstar nor Nintendo has confirmed anything.
The insider case
The reports started with Nash Weedle, who posted on June 26 claiming that Rockstar developers had solved the performance challenges of running GTA VI on Switch 2 and that subcontractors had been brought in specifically to handle the port. More credible backing came from Shpeshal_Nick, a leaker with a stronger track record. He stopped short of confirming the game runs on Switch 2, but said Rockstar is interested and is receiving active technical support from Nintendo — a collaboration he described as beneficial to both sides.

- Подолані технічні перепони
- Включені контрактори спеціалісти з портів на Switch 2
- Мені продовжують казати, що цього року не з'явиться

The feasibility argument has a logical backbone. GTA VI is confirmed for Xbox Series S, a console that sits at roughly the same performance tier as Switch 2. Port studios have repeatedly noted that Series S optimization work translates well to Switch 2 builds, since the two platforms share similar constraints. Rockstar has also ported to Nintendo hardware before: LA Noire, the GTA Trilogy, and the Red Dead Redemption remaster all landed on Switch 2.
Для чого це варто, я про це не чув "це надходить", але я чув, що вони працюють з Rockstar/Take Two, щоб спробувати це здійснити https://t.co/VQTsdm12gL

Reasons to stay skeptical
Not everyone is convinced. Kiwi Talkz — a well-regarded interviewer of game developers — has claimed that Rockstar staff deny any port work is happening. NateTheHate, another insider, confirmed only that early internal tests took place, not active development. The insider consensus is fragmented, and the gap between "technically feasible" and "officially greenlit" is wide.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in February 2025 that the company would "fully expect to support Switch 2" — a signal of intent, but one that never named GTA VI specifically. The recent RDR remaster port to Switch 2 suggests a strategic shift toward Nintendo's platform, but that's a far smaller project than GTA VI.
If the port is real, 2027 is the earliest it would arrive — over a year after the main release. For now, it remains unconfirmed insider speculation, worth watching but not worth planning around.
