Samsung is bringing Privacy Display to every Galaxy S27 model, not just the Ultra
Samsung's anti-snooping screen technology is no longer staying locked to its most expensive phone. According to GSMArena (TheElec reporting), all four Galaxy S27 models — the S27, S27+, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra — will ship with Privacy Display when the lineup launches in early 2027. Until now the feature was exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra, making this the first time it reaches Samsung's mid-tier and base flagships.
What Privacy Display actually does
Privacy Display uses two types of subpixels in the panel. When someone tries to view the screen from an angle — over your shoulder on the subway, say — one set of subpixels switches off, making the display appear dark to anyone not directly in front of it. The owner sees a normal image; a nosy neighbor sees nothing useful. It's a hardware solution, not a software filter, which makes it harder to bypass and doesn't rely on the front camera detecting bystanders.
The supply picture
Samsung is not selling this panel technology to rivals any time soon. According to Memeburn, the company is withholding licenses from competitors — including Apple, Oppo, Xiaomi, and Huawei — until at least 2028. Apple and the Chinese brands are reportedly developing their own alternatives, but none have shipped at scale. That gives Samsung roughly an 18-month window where it's the only mainstream brand offering hardware-level screen privacy across a full lineup.
The market numbers underline why this matters. SigmaIntel forecasts Privacy Display shipments growing from around 1 million units in 2025 to 21 million in 2026 and 29 million in 2027 — a trajectory that suggests the feature will feel standard rather than premium by the time the Galaxy S28 arrives.
Price and availability
The Galaxy S27 series is expected to be announced at Samsung's Unpacked event in February 2027, with sales likely beginning in March. The S27 Pro — a compact 6.47-inch option positioned between the standard model and the Ultra — is tipped to start at around $1,099 to $1,200 in the US, with UK pricing estimated around £999 to £1,199. No official figures have been confirmed yet.
Samsung has not commented on any S27 details, so treat the specs and pricing as directional until the official announcement.
