SourceNext turns your laptop into a triple-screen workstation for $247

Japanese accessories maker SourceNext has launched the DIGI+ DGP-DMD1401, a dual-display add-on that mounts two 14.1-inch screens to the back of a laptop lid and turns it into a three-screen setup. The device retails for $247 and went on sale in July 2026 after raising more than ¥13 million (roughly $80,000) on Japanese crowdfunding platform Makuake. There is no confirmed US or UK retailer stocking it yet — only direct purchase through SourceNext's own store.

The hardware

The system attaches via an adjustable rear frame that fits laptops from 13 to 16 inches. Each side panel is a 14.1-inch IPS display running Full HD (1920×1080), so you gain two additional screens at the same resolution as most mainstream notebooks. A built-in rear stand takes the structural load off the laptop's own hinges and tilts up to 180 degrees. Total system weight is about 1.6 kg — close to a second laptop — which means a combined carry weight of 3–4 kg once you factor in the notebook itself, as confirmed by Guru3D.

The hinges are designed for flexibility: the left screen pivots up to 330 degrees and the right up to 270 degrees, letting you swing them outward for presentations or side-by-side collaboration. Connectivity runs through two USB-C ports and one Mini HDMI. Folded flat, the whole unit measures 383×219×36 mm.

The catch for US and UK buyers

The DIGI+ is sold exclusively through SourceNext's online store, with no partnership announced for Amazon, Best Buy, Currys, or any other Western retailer. That means import shipping costs and potential customs duties on top of the $247 price. The Forbes Vetted Portable Monitor Guide lists the Xebec Tri-Screen 3 as an actively available competing option in the US triple-screen category — and it can be ordered domestically without import hassle.

Dell, Lenovo, and ASUS all sell single portable 14–15-inch monitors through established retail channels, typically for less and with local warranty support. The DIGI+'s dual-mount form factor is genuinely unique, but the weight penalty is real: this is better suited to a fixed desk-away-from-desk setup — a hotel room or co-working space — than a daily commute bag.

Worth it?

For video editors, traders, or developers who regularly work away from the office and need serious screen real estate, the concept is solid. At $247 the price is competitive if you can absorb the shipping. But until SourceNext signs a distribution deal outside Japan, most buyers will need to weigh the import friction against the convenience of a single clip-on unit that replaces two separate portable monitors.
