Casio's A130WE Brings Back the 80s Hybrid LCD Watch

Casio has added the A130WE series to its Vintage lineup, reviving the hybrid analog-digital LCD style that defined 1980s digital watches. Two models are already in stock at UK retailers from £59.90, with US availability confirmed at $69.95–$89.95. If you've ever wanted the aesthetic of a Cold War-era calculator watch without hunting eBay, this is the straightforward answer.

The display

The A130WE's screen is split into three distinct zones. The upper-left shows a digital rendering of an analog clock face — moving hands and all. The upper-right holds a graphic indicator that activates during functions like the stopwatch or countdown timer. The bottom half is a conventional digital readout showing hours, minutes, seconds, date, and day of the week.

The build

The case measures 40.5 × 33.9 × 9 mm and weighs 54 g — compact enough to wear daily without feeling like a toy. It's chrome-plated resin paired with an adjustable stainless steel bracelet. Casio offers the series in silver, gold, and gunmetal finishes. Two models — the A130WE-7A (blue LCD) and the A130WEGG-1A (orange LCD) — add a splash of color to the display, though those variants are still listed as unreleased in the UK and US as of launch.

What it does

Feature-wise, the A130WE covers the basics and then some. It handles world time across 31 time zones and 48 cities, with a Multi-time shortcut for four saved locations — useful if you travel or work across time zones. Other functions include a 1/100-second stopwatch, a 24-hour countdown timer, five daily alarms, and an auto-calendar. Battery is a CR1616, rated for around three years. The watch is splash-resistant for everyday wear, and the amber LED backlight can be set to stay on for 1.5 or 3 seconds.

Availability and price

In the UK, the A130WE-1AEF (silver/black face) is £59.90 and the A130WEG-9AEF (gold) is £79.90, available now from the Casio UK store and authorized retailers including Jura and House of Watches. In the US, prices run from $69.95 to $89.95. Both silver variants are in stock; the color LCD models remain on the way. As NotebookCheck notes, those two additional variants have no firm release date yet. Japan's launch, priced at roughly $54 at the local ¥8,800 MSRP, shows the series commands a noticeable premium in Western markets — but at under £80 or $90, it still undercuts most fashion watches by a wide margin.
