Keychron K5 Ultra 8K: Full-size wireless keyboard with 8000 Hz polling for $115
Keychron has launched the K5 Ultra 8K, a full-size low-profile mechanical keyboard that delivers an 8000 Hz polling rate over both 2.4 GHz wireless and wired USB-C — all for $114.99. That puts it well below the ASUS ROG Falchion ($170+) and far below the wired-only Wooting 80HE ($300+). It's available now on Keychron's site and Amazon.
The build
The K5 Ultra 8K sits in a 100% layout — every key, including the numpad — inside a chassis that's just 20 mm tall at the front edge. The top plate is anodized aluminum; the bottom case is ABS plastic. Natural wood accents line the sides, and an aluminum rotary knob in the top-right corner handles volume by default but can be remapped. Inside, IXPE and EPDM foam layers cut down typing noise. The keyboard ships with double-shot PBT keycaps and includes both Mac and Windows keycap sets in the box.

Specs and battery
The 8000 Hz polling rate works in both wired and 2.4 GHz wireless modes — a spec that used to require a physical cable. Bluetooth 5.2 is also on board for pairing up to three devices, though it runs at standard polling rates. A 2,600 mAh battery delivers up to 370 hours on 2.4 GHz with RGB off. That's lower than some Keychron siblings (the K2 Ultra 8K claims 760 hours), largely because powering 8K wireless is more demanding.
One caveat worth noting: the K5 uses Keychron's Milk POM mechanical switches (Red, Brown, or Banana options) — not Hall Effect sensors. That means no rapid-trigger feature. The theoretical latency gain of 8K over 1000 Hz polling is around 0.875 ms, which is below the human perception threshold for most typists and casual gamers. The spec matters more to competitive players running fast-paced shooters frame-by-frame.
Hot-swappable Milk POM switches come in Red (linear), Brown, and Banana (tactile) variants.
Software-free customization
The K5 Ultra 8K runs ZMK open-source firmware. Remapping keys, setting macros, and adjusting per-key RGB all happen through the browser-based Keychron Launcher web app — no desktop software to install. Chrome and Edge are supported. The keyboard is also hot-swappable, so changing switches takes seconds and no soldering iron.
Availability
The K5 Ultra 8K is on sale now in black at Keychron.com and Amazon US for $114.99. It's a competitive price for a wireless mechanical board with this polling rate — even if the practical gaming advantage over a solid 1000 Hz keyboard remains debatable for most users.
