Onimusha: Way of the Sword gets a free PC benchmark — and launches three weeks early

Capcom has bumped up the launch of Onimusha: Way of the Sword by three weeks — it now arrives September 4, 2026 instead of September 25 — and released a free benchmark tool on Steam and the Epic Games Store so players can see whether their PC is ready. The tool returns one of six ratings, from "Excellent" down to "Insufficient," giving a clear go/no-go answer before you spend any money.

The specs

Four preset configurations cover the full range from entry-level to enthusiast. Every config requires 16 GB of RAM, a 50 GB SSD (a spinning hard drive won't do), and Windows 11. The GPU demands scale up steeply:

| Target | GPU | |---|---| | 1080p / 30 fps (Low) | GTX 1660 or RX 5500 XT | | 1080p / 60 fps (Medium) | RTX 2060 SUPER or RX 6600 | | 1440p / 60 fps (High) | RTX 4060 Ti or RX 6750 XT | | 4K / 60 fps (Ultra) | RTX 4070 Ti or RX 7900 XT |

The good news for mid-range systems: a four-year-old RTX 2060 SUPER or an RX 6600 is enough for a smooth 1080p/60 experience. Hitting 4K at Ultra settings is a different story — you'll need a current-gen card with at least 12 GB of VRAM. DLSS 4.5 and FSR 4 are both supported if you want to lean on upscaling, but neither is required. Capcom notes the final requirements could still change before launch.

The base game is priced at $69.99 in the US, per the GG.deals price tracker. Key-shop discounts of around 18% are already available, bringing it closer to $57. Pre-orders on Steam and Epic include an Early Adopter bonus — in-game cosmetics that expire September 24.

What the game is

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the first all-new entry in the franchise in roughly 20 years, built on Capcom's RE Engine (the same technology behind the recent Resident Evil and Devil May Cry games). The lead character is Miyamoto Musashi — a real 17th-century swordsman whose likeness is modeled on legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune. Killed in battle and revived by a demonic gauntlet, he hunts demons through Edo-period Japan alongside Izumo no Okuni, another historical figure.

There's no open world. Capcom describes the structure as a series of large semi-open areas connected by story progression, closer in spirit to the original Onimusha: Warlords than to a modern open-world action game. The main story alone runs over 20 hours, with side content pushing that considerably higher.

The game launches September 4 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. A playable demo is available now on all platforms except Switch 2. Capcom's official announcement confirmed the accelerated date, citing a desire to get the game into players' hands sooner.
