Huawei FreeClip 2 S: open-ear earbuds meet French jewellery

Huawei's FreeClip 2 S went on sale globally on July 14, 2026, carrying a £199 RRP in the UK and €229 across Europe. The headline change isn't the audio hardware — that's unchanged — but a redesigned charging case and a collaboration with French jewellery house Les Néréides that positions these open-ear earbuds squarely in fashion territory. A promotional price of £169 in the UK (€199 in Europe) runs until August 17, making now a reasonable time to consider them.

The look

The charging case is the most visible departure from the FreeClip 2. It ditches the AirPod-style pill shape for a near-spherical form, with 20% more internal storage space — enough to keep a small accessory or piece of jewellery alongside the buds. The C-bridge connector on the earbuds themselves is 25% softer than before, and the surface is now smooth rather than ridged. Both the earbuds and case get a metallic finish, available in Metallic Blue or Silver.

The Les Néréides partnership is the other talking point. The Paris-founded jewellery house — known for hand-painted enamel pieces — created clip-on accessories with floral motifs inspired by Van Gogh's Irises, Cherry Blossom, and Cherries designs. These are sold separately at around €80–€100 per piece, or bundled with the earbuds in a £199 pack in the UK, per GSMArena. The spherical case is designed to store them. The pitch, as T3 notes, is wearable art rather than another pair of wireless earbuds.

The specs

Inside, FreeClip 2 S carries over the full FreeClip 2 hardware spec. That means 10.8mm dual-diaphragm drivers, Bluetooth 6.0 with Multipoint (connecting to two devices simultaneously), and IP57 water and dust resistance. Battery life is rated at 9 hours per charge, extending to 38 hours with the case. Codec support covers SBC, AAC, and Huawei's own L2HC — no LDAC, LHDC, or aptX.

The earbuds don't split into left and right — an auto-recognition feature detects which ear they're in and switches audio channels accordingly. Gesture, touch, and head-tilt controls are all supported. A three-microphone system handles call noise reduction.

Worth it?

At £199, the FreeClip 2 S sits above the original FreeClip's launch price and squarely challenges the Shokz OpenFit in the open-ear premium tier. The hardware upgrade over the FreeClip 2 is incremental — a softer bridge, a bigger case — so the real justification is the design and the fashion angle. If that resonates, the promotional price through August 17 makes the entry point a little easier.
