Casio's thinnest steel G-Shock goes on sale in the US at $510

Casio has put two new G-Steel models on sale in the US — the GST-B1000BD-1A and GST-B1000BD-2A — at $510 each. First shown in Japan in May, they are the slimmest steel G-Shock ever built, at just 11.6mm thick and 118g. That puts them in direct conversation with minimalist Swiss dress watches, but with the full shock-resistance and solar charging G-Shock is known for.

The look

Both watches carry a clean octagonal bezel with no engraved logos — a deliberate nod to the original 1983 DW-5000C that started the G-Shock line. The bezel and bracelet are stainless steel with black ion plating on all metal parts, including the screws and caseback. Brushed and mirror-polished surfaces alternate across the triple-fold clasp bracelet. The -1A is fully monochrome; the -2A adds blue accents. Underneath the metal exterior, a Carbon Core Guard shell — reinforced resin with bio-based plastic — handles the structural shock absorption.

The dial is all-analog: three hands plus a day-of-week indicator. There are no digital readouts, no busy sub-dials. The brick-pattern texture on the dial face echoes the DW-5000C's original grid design.

The hardware

Despite the slim profile, Casio kept the flagship spec list intact. Tough Solar charges the battery via any light source; you get roughly five months of normal use or up to 18 months in power-save mode without a recharge. Bluetooth connects to the Casio Watches app for automatic time sync, phone-finder, and one-tap GPS coordinate logging. Water resistance is rated at 20 bar (200 metres) — far beyond what most dress watches offer.

Additional features include a stopwatch, a countdown timer (up to 30 minutes), a daily alarm, and a perpetual calendar running to 2099, all with a white Super Illuminator LED backlight.

Price and availability

Both models are available now on the Casio US store at $510 each. For context, the standard GST-B1000D variants are priced at £379 in the UK and €399 in Europe, per G-Central; UK stock for the BD models is expected in Q1–Q2 2026 through authorized retailers. At $510, the GST-B1000BD sits well below entry-level luxury steel watches while matching them on thinness — making it a credible option for anyone who wants a wrist-friendly metal watch that doesn't need a battery swap for years.
