Amazon's RoboCop series is officially happening — 8 episodes ordered for Prime Video

RoboCop is coming back to screens — this time as a streaming series. Amazon MGM Studios officially greenlit an eight-episode RoboCop show for Prime Video on July 21, 2026, per Variety. The order arrives four years after Amazon closed its $8.5 billion MGM acquisition and signals the company is finally moving on one of the library's most recognizable action properties.

The team

Peter Ocko — known for Lodge 49 and Pushing Daisies, with credits on The Office — will serve as showrunner, head writer, and executive producer. That's a TV-native pedigree for a franchise that has lived almost entirely on the big screen. James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett of Blumhouse Atomic Monster are also executive producers, bringing the horror-inflected streaming formula that has worked well for the genre in recent years. Crucially, original 1987 co-creators Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are attached as EPs, which suggests the project intends to stay close to the satirical, anti-corporate tone of Paul Verhoeven's film rather than drift toward the softer reboot territory of the poorly received 2014 remake.

What we actually know (and don't)

The premise returns to franchise basics: a powerful robot implanted with the consciousness of a fallen police officer is placed on an active force. Beyond that, Amazon hasn't announced cast, a production start date, or a premiere window. No cast means no firm indicator of when this actually lands on screens.

The long runway from acquisition to greenlight — Deadline reports Ocko was hired in 2024, with a pre-greenlight report surfacing in April 2026 — shows Amazon moving carefully. The recent cancellation of its Stargate series is a reminder that even high-profile Prime Video projects don't always make it to air. RoboCop, with its built-in name recognition and satirical edge, is a safer bet than most, but the absence of any production timeline keeps expectations in check for now.
