Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: 200MP camera, thinner build, and a $2,099 price tag
Samsung's premium foldable for 2026 is here — and it's more expensive than last year's. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starts at $2,099 in the US and £1,899 in the UK, a roughly $100/£100 increase over the Z Fold 7, driven in part by a global DRAM shortage pushing memory costs higher. Pre-orders opened immediately after the July 22 Unpacked event in London, with retail launch expected in early August 2026.
Two Folds, one Ultra
This year Samsung split its foldable lineup in two. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 adopts a wider, more tablet-like 4:3 aspect ratio. The Ultra sticks with the classic tall 3:2 format — the one existing Z Fold owners already know — while adding meaningful hardware upgrades across the board.
The inner display grows slightly to 8 inches at 2504×2256 pixels, up from 2184×1968 on the Z Fold 7. The outer cover screen is 6.5 inches at 2520×1080. Both panels hit 120Hz and peak at 3,000 nits of brightness.

The camera jump
The biggest change is in the camera system. The main shooter moves from 50MP to 200MP with an f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization. The ultrawide gets a significant upgrade too — from 12MP f/2.4 to 50MP f/1.9. The 3x telephoto stays at 10MP f/2.4. Samsung is pitching the Ultra squarely at creators and heavy photo users, and the spec sheet backs that up.

Inside sits Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 For Galaxy, clocked up to 4.47GHz, paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM. Storage options are 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Samsung also highlights an improved cooling system designed to sustain peak performance under heavy workloads — relevant for video editing and gaming on the go.

Battery and software
Battery capacity increases to 5,000mAh, up from the Z Fold 7. Charging tops out at 45W wired, with wireless charging also supported. The phone ships with One UI 9 on Android 17, and supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and 5G. The unfolded thickness is just 4.1mm, and it weighs 218g.
Pricing and availability
US pricing per Tech Advisor: $2,099 (256GB), with higher storage tiers above that. UK base is £1,899. EU pricing is €2,199 / €2,399 / €2,799 for 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB respectively. Pre-order bonuses in the US include a $30 store credit — down from $50 last year — plus trade-in savings up to $1,230, per Forbes. The memory chip crunch is the main culprit for the tighter promotions.
Colors are Graphite, Cream, and Violet Shadow, with a Green Shadow exclusive to the Samsung Store. In the US, the phone will be available through Samsung.com, Verizon, AT&T;, T-Mobile, and Best Buy. UK buyers can expect Currys, John Lewis, and Carphone Warehouse.
