Zebronics PixaPlay 72 Plus: a $60 projector with Android 12 and a 200-degree tilt

Zebronics has launched the PixaPlay 72 Plus in India for Rs 5,499 — roughly $60 at the introductory price — putting a big-screen setup within reach of buyers who won't spend £300 on a BenQ or Optoma. The projector runs Android 12, supports Wi-Fi 6, and includes a remote and HDMI cable in the box. The catch: native resolution is 1280×720, and the 4,000-lumen brightness figure is almost certainly not measured to the ANSI standard used by established rivals.

The hardware

The headline feature is a 200-degree tilt mechanism that lets you point the lens at almost any angle — ceiling projection included — without stacking books under the body. Automatic vertical keystone correction then squares up the geometry. That flexibility is genuinely useful in a rented flat or a room without a dedicated wall.

The LED lamp is rated at 30,000 hours, which works out to well over a decade of nightly use. The onboard Android 12 install runs YouTube and OTT streaming apps directly, so you don't need a separate Fire Stick or Chromecast. A quad-core processor handles playback; don't expect smooth gaming. Connectivity includes HDMI (with ARC for a one-cable audio connection), USB, AUX, Bluetooth 5.4, Miracast, and AirPlay.

The brightness question

The 4,000-lumen claim is where scepticism is warranted. Budget projectors routinely quote manufacturer lumens, which can be three to four times higher than the ANSI-measured figure used by brands like Optoma and BenQ. In practice, the PixaPlay 72 Plus will need a darkened room to produce a usable picture — fine for evening film nights, not ideal for a bright living room.

Zebronics does have a PixaPlay 73 on Amazon.co.uk, so grey-market imports are possible, but there's no warranty support or guaranteed plug compatibility outside India. At its introductory price the PixaPlay 72 Plus is a compelling experiment — just go in with your eyes open about resolution and real-world brightness.
