Redmi 17 5G lands in Europe with a massive 7,500mAh battery at €210

Xiaomi has quietly soft-launched the Redmi 17 5G in Poland at €210–€255, undercutting early analyst estimates by €30–40 and confirming the full 7,500mAh battery survives the European release — a rarity for budget phones that often get capacity cuts in regional variants. The phone runs HyperOS 3.0 on top of Android 16 from day one, which signals better long-term software support than you'd normally expect at this price. No UK or US pricing has been announced yet.

The hardware

The Redmi 17 5G is a big phone: a 6.9-inch IPS LCD, 120Hz refresh rate, and 825 nits peak brightness, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. The resolution is HD+ (1600×720), which is modest for that screen size but typical for the segment. The body measures 170×74×9mm and weighs 235g, so this is a two-handed device. IP64 splash and dust resistance rounds things out — not waterproof, but rain-proof.

Inside sits a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, Qualcomm's newest entry-level chip. Per Notebookcheck, the GPU is 77% faster than the previous Gen 4 and supports 90fps gaming — a genuine step up over rival budget phones using MediaTek's Helio G99, including the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion (€249). Cameras are straightforward: 50MP main, 8MP selfie. Xiaomi has kept the 3.5mm headphone jack, an RGB notification LED, NFC, and stereo speakers — features that have quietly disappeared from plenty of phones twice the price.

Battery life and software

The 7,500mAh battery is the headline figure. Xiaomi claims 78+ hours of use, meaning most people would charge it every three or four days under normal conditions. Fast charging tops out at 45W over USB-C — slower than flagship Chinese rivals at 120W, but respectable for a battery this large. Note that the 45W charger is sold separately, so factor that into the real cost.

HyperOS 3.0, based on Android 16, brings AI writing tools, a Dynamic Island-style Super Island notification bar, and cross-device features that may appeal to anyone considering a switch from iPhone. Launching on Android 16 also puts the Redmi 17 5G ahead of most budget competitors still shipping on Android 14.

Availability and price

As GSMArena reports, Polish retailers list the 4GB/128GB model at €210 and the 4GB/256GB at €255, in Green, Blue, and Orange colorways. Wider European rollout is expected within weeks based on Xiaomi's typical regional launch pattern, though official UK pricing and an Xiaomi announcement are still pending. US availability has not been confirmed.
