Beast of Reincarnation hits Game Pass day one, Gears of War: E-Day beta dated

Game Freak's post-apocalyptic action RPG Beast of Reincarnation launched August 4 directly into Game Pass — no waiting, no extra cost — making it one of the more significant day-one third-party arrivals this year. The game scores 76 on OpenCritic and 73 on Metacritic, placing it firmly in "worth your time if you like the genre" territory, according to TechTimes review scores. Xbox needs wins like this: Game Pass Ultimate shed millions of subscribers after a price hike to $29.99 in October 2025, and Microsoft only clawed back momentum with an April 2026 cut to $22.99, per TechTimes Game Pass context.

Beast of Reincarnation

This is Game Freak's first serious swing at AAA outside Pokémon, and reviewers are split down predictable lines. The parry-centric combat — think Sekiro's rhythm crossed with NieR: Automata's style — earns consistent praise. The post-apocalyptic atmosphere lands well too. Where it stumbles: the pacing around protagonist Emma drags in the mid-sections, and PC players are reporting shader pre-compilation stutter at launch. That last issue may be patched, but story-first players on PC might want to wait a week. It's available now on Xbox Series X|S, PC Game Pass, and cloud streaming.

The August lineup

Beyond Beast, the first half of August brings a few notable additions. The Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer beta runs August 6–10 for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers (plus pre-orders), then opens to everyone August 13–17. The beta includes the new 12-player Horde Siege PvE mode alongside returning Versus competitive play with revised mechanics — The Coalition's clearest signal yet of how it's refreshing the franchise ahead of the October 6 full release.

PowerWash Simulator 2 and Monsters are Coming! both shift into Game Pass Premium on August 6, meaning Ultimate subscribers won't find them in their tier. That's a recurring pattern this month: several titles are Premium-only, so it's worth checking your tier before assuming something is available.

On the way out August 15: Atlas Fallen, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Firewatch, and the Menace preview.

Outlook

Day-one third-party titles are now the primary value driver for Game Pass Ultimate, replacing the Call of Duty effect that defined subscriptions for two years. Beast of Reincarnation and the Gears beta are doing that job in August — and if The Coalition's October launch holds, the autumn slate looks considerably stronger.
