Diablo IV is reportedly coming to Switch 2 in September for $69.99 — with a catch

Diablo IV is heading to Nintendo Switch 2 as early as September 15 or 18, 2026, according to a leak from billbil-kun, the Dealabs insider with a strong track record of accurate retail intel. The price is set at $69.99, matching what Blizzard charges for the Age of Hatred bundle on other platforms. This would mark the franchise's first appearance on Nintendo hardware since Diablo III shipped for the original Switch back in 2018.

The code-in-box problem

If you're planning to pick up a physical copy, know what you're actually buying. GamesRadar+ confirms the retail box will contain a download code, not a game cartridge. You'll need an internet connection to redeem and install it — the same approach used for Baldur's Gate 3 and Final Fantasy VII Remake on Switch. It keeps the shelf presence without the manufacturing cost, but it's a friction point for anyone who prefers true physical media.

What's still unclear

The DLC situation is murkier than it should be. Blizzard's own April 2026 announcement stated the Lord of Hatred expansion would be bundled with the Switch 2 version. But billbil-kun says he can't confirm DLC inclusion — a direct conflict worth noting before you decide $69.99 is or isn't good value. Taiwan's certification database previously listed the game alongside the expansion, so there's reason for cautious optimism, but nothing is locked in.

Live-service parity is another open question. Diablo IV runs seasonal content that updates across PC and console simultaneously. Whether Switch 2 players will be on the same seasonal timeline from day one hasn't been addressed publicly.

What to expect next

No pre-order pages are live on Amazon US, Amazon UK, or any major retailer as of now. Blizzard and Microsoft are expected to make an official announcement at Gamescom 2026, which runs August 26–30 in Cologne — or potentially at BlizzCon on September 12–13. Either way, a formal reveal looks imminent.

One hardware note worth flagging: Switch 2's mouse mode could give Diablo IV a genuine edge in handheld play. The isometric layout maps naturally to point-and-click controls, something no other major Switch 2 port — not Cyberpunk 2077, not Elden Ring — currently offers.
