Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition gets its fourth DLC with two new AI lords
Firefly Studios has released the fourth DLC for Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition, keeping the content pipeline moving just over a year after the remaster launched to strong reviews. "The Surgeon and Baibars" went live on Steam on August 4, 2026, adding two new AI lords built around very different combat philosophies. If you're already in — the base game holds 91% positive ratings across more than 9,000 Steam reviews — this is the most tactically varied add-on yet.
Two lords, two problems
The Surgeon is a defensive specialist. He raises thick-walled castles loaded with towers, and cracking his fortifications requires patience and a well-planned siege. Baibars is the opposite: a former slave who rose to become sultan, he skips elaborate defenses in favor of a powerful standing army and constant pressure. Going up against both in the same session will demand you adapt mid-battle.

The trail and the free stuff
Alongside the two lords, the DLC introduces "Trail of the Vulture," a nine-mission cooperative challenge trail designed to test coordinated play. Three free maps — Lush Crossover, Bypass, and River of Life — arrive at no extra cost for all players via the simultaneous update 2.8, which also bundles in bug fixes and minor content tweaks. The free update means even players who skip the paid DLC get something on patch day.
Where this fits
Four paid DLC drops plus free maps and co-op content in roughly seven months puts Firefly's post-launch cadence in the same conversation as Age of Empires IV. The Steam DLC page confirms pricing in your region at checkout — no universal price has been announced publicly. The Definitive Edition itself has been well received by critics, scoring 80 on Metacritic and 8/10 at PC Games.
The bigger picture: Stronghold 4 was announced in June 2026 and is targeting an early access window before the end of the year, which means Crusader DE is now effectively the series' current commercial home. Firefly keeping it active with regular drops makes sense while the next mainline entry finds its footing.
