Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and S12+: same look, new chip

Samsung's next flagship tablets are coming in September, and if you were hoping for a fresh look, the leaks aren't encouraging. Renders published by SammyGuru show the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Tab S12+ with the same frame thickness and bezel proportions as last year's Tab S11 series. The only visible exterior change: a new blue-purple gradient wallpaper with an 'S' logo in the center.

The design

The Tab S12 Ultra keeps its center notch — earlier rumors had suggested a move to a punch-hole camera, but the renders rule that out. Both tablets are shown in gray and silver. The overall impression is of a product line refreshed on the inside while left largely untouched on the outside, per Android Headlines.

The hardware

Under the hood, the Tab S12 Ultra gets a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor and a 14.6-inch display, with its battery holding at 11,600 mAh — the same capacity as the Tab S11 Ultra. The Tab S12+ steps up to a 12.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel running at 120 Hz, with a 10,600 mAh battery. Both models ship with the S Pen stylus included and will receive seven years of Android OS and security updates, taking them through to 2033.

The case for buying

At an expected price north of $1,100 — with the Ultra likely clearing $1,300 — Samsung is asking a lot for a familiar shell. Apple has already raised iPad Pro prices, but competitors are undercutting hard: Memeburn reports gaming-focused tablets from RedMagic and Motorola are landing between $390 and $499. Samsung's strongest counter-argument is longevity — seven years of software support is genuinely competitive in a segment where many Android tablets get dropped after two or three updates. One UI 9 and the bundled S Pen add value, but Tab S11 owners will need to weigh whether a faster chip and new wallpapers justify the upgrade cost.

A formal announcement is expected in September 2026, likely timed around IFA in Berlin. US and UK retail availability should follow within a couple of weeks of the reveal.
