Xiaomi's new MagSafe Bluetooth speaker snaps onto your iPhone for under $30

Xiaomi has launched a compact Bluetooth speaker that attaches directly to the back of an iPhone using a MagSafe-compatible magnetic ring. The Magnetic Edition went live on the Xiaomi Youpin crowdfunding platform on August 19 at 132 yuan (around $18), rising to 199 yuan (around $28) once the campaign ends. No UK or US release has been announced, per iGeekphone.

The pitch

The speaker snaps onto the back of any iPhone 12 or later — or any MagSafe-compatible case — and stays put thanks to the built-in magnetic ring at the base. That same position doubles as a rudimentary phone stand, propping the handset up while audio plays. A Hall-effect sensor detects when the speaker connects to the phone and powers it on automatically, which is a small but genuinely useful touch.

Specs and build

The driver is a 1.5-inch, 3W wideband unit — adequate for background listening at a desk or outdoors, not a replacement for a proper portable speaker. Two units can pair together for stereo output. The body is wrapped in a fine-mesh grille with RGB lighting along the base, and despite weighing just 95g the speaker carries an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. That level of protection is more commonly found on bulkier hardware, so it's a legitimate differentiator at this price.

Battery and availability

Inside sits a 650 mAh battery. Xiaomi hasn't specified runtime, but at 3W draw a few hours of playback is a reasonable expectation. Competitors like the SBS Mag Speaker claim around eight hours, so that gap matters if all-day use is the goal.

Worth watching, not yet worth buying (outside China)

Right now this is a China-only product. Xiaomi's Sound Pocket reached the UK at £14.99 in 2025, per Gizmochina, which shows the company is willing to distribute small audio accessories in Western markets — but timelines are unpredictable and can lag by six to eighteen months. One further wrinkle: the iPhone 16E dropped MagSafe entirely, which quietly narrows the addressable audience for any MagSafe accessory going forward. If you own an iPhone 12 through 16 Pro Max, the concept is sound. Whether this specific model ever lands on Amazon or at a UK retailer remains to be seen.
