Exodus gets an April 2027 release date — and a sentient octopus
Archetype Entertainment has confirmed that Exodus, its long-anticipated sci-fi action RPG, launches April 7, 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The studio — founded by BioWare alumni James Ohlen, Drew Karpyshyn, and Chad Robertson — revealed the date alongside a new gameplay trailer that puts one of the game's strangest companions front and center.
The octopus in the mech
That companion is Salt, a sentient octopus sealed inside a pressurized capsule and piloting a high-tech robotic body. In the world of Exodus, creatures like Salt are called the Awakened — animals that have evolved far beyond their Earth counterparts. It's an odd detail, but it signals Archetype's intent: build the kind of memorable squadmates that defined Mass Effect, without repeating it beat for beat.
Time dilation and McConaughey
The game's central mechanic borrows a page from Interstellar. Spend a few days traveling between star systems and decades can pass back on the planets you left behind. Every trip carries consequences — returning to find civilizations transformed or allies long dead. It's a structural choice that could make replaying Exodus feel genuinely different each time.
Matthew McConaughey voices a character called C.C. Orlev. Studio co-founder Chad Robertson was explicit on this point: McConaughey recorded his performance using his real voice, entirely separate from his existing ElevenLabs AI voice deal. That distinction matters as AI-generated performances become more common across the industry.
What to expect
Archetype is promising branching dialogue, morally ambiguous choices, and fast-paced gunplay — the DNA of Ohlen's work on Baldur's Gate and Karpyshyn's writing on Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic. Publisher Wizards of the Coast (a Hasbro subsidiary) backs the project, which should mean wide day-one availability across major retailers.
No pricing has been announced yet. The release date was confirmed at Gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2026. April 7, 2027 is now the date to mark.
