Tropico 7 gets a January 2027 release date and a new gameplay trailer
Kalypso Media has confirmed that Tropico 7 launches January 28, 2027 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S — and it will be available on Game Pass from day one. The political satire strategy series, which sold over a million copies with Tropico 6 back in 2019, returns with a new gameplay trailer that finally shows what the seventh entry actually looks like in motion.
The new stuff
The biggest mechanical addition is terraforming. Players can now reshape their island from scratch — flattening mountains, sculpting beaches, and generating entirely new landmasses. It's a significant jump from the series' traditionally fixed maps, and it opens up sandbox play in ways previous entries didn't allow.
The campaign spans five maps, each built around the returning cast of El Presidente and Penultimo alongside a new antagonist named Victoria Guerra. The core loop is familiar: keep citizens satisfied enough to stay in power without tipping into the kind of heavy-handed repression that triggers full-scale revolt. Political management and military control have both been expanded, giving players more levers to pull — and more ways to quietly remove inconvenient rivals.
Replay value
Beyond the campaign, Tropico 7 ships with 10 extra scenarios, more than 20 sandbox maps, and a random map generator. For a strategy game, that's a solid content offering at launch.
Game Pass angle
The Game Pass inclusion is the most commercially interesting detail for US and UK players. Most comparable strategy releases land at $40–$60 and stay there for months. Day-one Game Pass access lowers the barrier significantly, especially for players who skipped Tropico 6 or are new to the series entirely.
No official retail price has been announced yet — third-party pre-order estimates put it somewhere in the £30–£45 range, but that's speculative until Kalypso confirms an MSRP. The game will be available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store, as well as PlayStation and Xbox storefronts. per Gematsu, the January 28 date is confirmed directly from Kalypso's official announcement.
