Xiaomi's dual-drum mini washer-dryer claims a 40-minute full cycle
Xiaomi has opened pre-orders in China for the Mijia Mini Dual-Tube Washer Dryer 5kg, a compact machine that fits two independent wash drums into a single unit and claims to complete a full wash-and-dry cycle in around 40 minutes. That's a significant gap versus the two-to-four hours a standard washer-dryer typically takes. There's no UK or US launch planned, but the specs are worth a look.
The dual-drum idea
The headline feature is straightforward: two separate 5kg-combined-capacity drums run simultaneously, letting you wash delicates and heavier fabrics at the same time without cross-contamination. A DD direct-drive motor spins a 255mm drum, and Xiaomi lists 34 wash programs — including a delicate silk mode that runs at 40°C and stops automatically once moisture leaves the fabric to avoid heat damage.

An auto-dosing system pulls from two 150ml detergent reservoirs and measures out the right amount per load based on weight and fabric type. Xiaomi says one fill lasts roughly a month. The machine also claims certified stain removal for milk, blood, coffee, and fruit, plus 99.99% virus and bacteria sterilization — both are company figures with no independent lab verification published so far.
Pricing and where you can buy it
In China, the list price is $485. With Chinese government subsidies applied at launch, that drops to around $375. Neither figure translates to a Western retail price, because Notebookcheck confirms Xiaomi has not announced plans to bring this model to other markets.
Xiaomi does sell Mijia appliances in Europe — the 9kg Mijia Front Load Washer Dryer Pro is available on Xiaomi UK official for £579 — but the compact dual-drum model is absent from the UK store. In the US, Xiaomi sells no Mijia home appliances officially at all. The compact washer segment in both markets is currently dominated by LG and Samsung. If Xiaomi does push this westward, it will need third-party verification of those speed and sterilization claims to compete seriously.
