Sony's new ULT Tower speakers go from $450 party starter to 2,150W beast
Sony is expanding its ULT POWER SOUND series with three new tower speakers — the ULT TOWER 5, ULT TOWER 7, and ULT TOWER MAX — aimed squarely at parties, karaoke nights, and amateur DJ setups. All three go on sale in September 2026, priced from $449.99 to $1,499.99 in the US (€400 to €1,500 in Europe), per SoundGuys. The lineup gives buyers a clear on-ramp: pick the size of the room, pick the budget.
The hardware
Every model shares a core feature set. There's an ULT button that cycles through three sound modes: ULT1 for boosted deep bass, ULT2 for maximum output, and FLAT for neutral playback. All three support Bluetooth, XLR, RCA, and USB-C connections, plus wireless multi-speaker pairing. Each can stand vertically or lie horizontally, and all include synchronized lighting. Sound tuning was done in collaboration with hip-hop producers Dot Da Genius, Daru Jones, Dready, and Dennis "ROC.am" Jones — a credibility play that sets the ULT line apart from generic party speakers.

The ULT TOWER MAX is the headline act. At 2,150W with three woofers — two front-facing, one rear — it promises 360° Party Sound coverage and enough volume for large outdoor events. It weighs 56kg, so Sony fitted it with four handles and wide-tread wheels. Per Notebookcheck, the cabinet stands roughly one meter tall. It uses 35% recycled plastic.
The ULT TOWER 7 steps down to 420W and 30 hours of battery life. It carries IPX4 splash resistance when upright — useful if a drink goes sideways — and uses 20% recycled plastic. At $649.99 / €600, it sits in the sweet spot for anyone who wants serious output without hauling the MAX around.
The ULT TOWER 5 is the entry point: 300W, 20 hours of battery, IPX4 protection, and a more portable form factor with built-in handles. At $449.99 / €400, it competes directly with the JBL PartyBox On-The-Go. Its cabinet also uses 20% recycled plastic.
Availability
All three models go on sale in September 2026. In the US, they'll be available through Sony.com, Amazon, and authorized retailers. UK GBP pricing hasn't been confirmed through Sony UK's official channels yet, but EU pricing is set at €400, €600, and €1,500 respectively, per Sony EU Press.
