Until Dawn 2 gets a release date and a serious narrative pedigree

Until Dawn 2 has a firm launch date: January 28, 2027, exclusive to PS5. Sony revealed the news at State of Play alongside a new trailer that shows considerably more than the teaser from June 2026. Pre-orders open September 10 in Standard and Digital Deluxe editions, the latter bundling Y2K Neon Vibes costumes and a "Diorama of Death" vignette mode.

The setup

The game follows eight ghost-hunters — a crew called Dead True — who travel to the abandoned Akishima Island resort. Before arriving, they pass through the mansion where the first game's events took place, which nods directly to the 2015 original and its 2024 remake. Choice-driven horror is back: characters can die in multiple ways, and branching paths shift depending on what you do. Peter Stormare returns as Dr. Hill, reprising his role from the original.

The Dispatch connection

The bigger story here is who's helping write it. Sony confirmed in the PlayStation Blog that Firesprite partnered with AdHoc Studio on the narrative. AdHoc made Dispatch, one of the most praised story games of 2025 — it hit over 4 million players, won a Steam Award, and collected BAFTA recognition, all without leaning on a subscription service. That track record gives Until Dawn 2 some genuine story credibility rather than just franchise momentum.

What it means for PS5 owners

This is a PS5 exclusive with no multi-platform port announced or hinted at. It lands in late January 2027, which puts it ahead of other anticipated Sony titles early in the year. If you liked the original Until Dawn's tension-and-consequence structure, or if Dispatch's branching storytelling appealed to you, this is worth watching. Regional pricing hasn't been confirmed yet, but both editions will be available to pre-order from September 10.
