Maneater 2 announced for 2027 across PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, and PC
Maneater is getting a sequel. Tripwire Interactive and Demiurge Studios revealed Maneater 2 during Sony's State of Play on September 3, 2026, targeting a 2027 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The original 2020 game — in which you play as a man-eating shark — accumulated over 20 million players globally, making this one of the more quietly successful franchises in the action-adventure space.
The setting
The sequel drops players into Neptune's Kingdom, a Roman Empire-themed luxury resort that functions as the game's open world. The debut trailer confirms you can still tear through harbors, waterparks, and open ocean, attacking boats and swimmers with the same physics-first absurdity as the original. New additions include giant crabs, piranhas, and a mutation path toward something resembling a megalodon. The developers describe a world built around "monumental architecture," a "Mohito Valley snack bar," and a storyline about escaping a fortress of corporate greed and scientific abuse — all framed as dark comedy.
Chris Parnell, who voiced narrator Trip Westhaven in the original, returns. Tripwire is also promising improved underwater visuals and smarter ecosystem AI, though specifics are thin this far from launch.
Platforms and availability
The simultaneous Switch 2 inclusion is worth noting. Committing to Nintendo's new hardware this early in development signals confidence that the specs are stable enough to build against. Tripwire's announcement confirms PLAION will handle physical retail globally, while Tripwire self-publishes on digital storefronts. No exact release window within 2027 has been set, and pricing has not been announced.
If the original's formula holds, expect a single-player open-world game with a campy tone and a narrator doing most of the heavy lifting. Whether the sequel can expand on that without losing the B-movie charm is the real question for 2027.
