Framework cuts laptop prices after scoring cheaper Micron memory
Framework is lowering prices on its laptops after its supply chain team secured a batch of Micron LPCAMM2 memory modules at a lower cost. Rather than pocket the difference, the company is passing the savings to customers—including those whose orders have already shipped. It's a rare move in an industry where cost windfalls rarely flow back to buyers.
The cuts follow a July price increase that Framework had flagged openly at the time, citing rising supplier costs. The new prices sit between that July peak and the original baseline from when orders first opened—so they're not rock-bottom, but they're a meaningful step down from recent highs.
The memory behind the drop
The cheaper modules at the center of this are 32GB and 64GB Micron LPCAMM2 units. LPCAMM2 is a modular memory format built on LPDDR5X, the same energy-efficient standard used in soldered chips found in most thin-and-light laptops. The key difference: LPCAMM2 slots in and out like traditional RAM, so users can upgrade or replace it without a screwdriver visit to a repair shop.
That replaceability is central to Framework's pitch. Most competitors—Apple MacBooks and Dell XPS laptops among them—solder memory directly to the motherboard, locking buyers into whatever spec they ordered at whatever price the manufacturer sets later for service.

Who gets the lower price
According to Framework's official blog post, the reduced pricing applies to two groups: customers who have already received their devices, and those with pre-orders still in the queue. Framework says the supply of discounted modules is limited, so the lower pricing may not last indefinitely—though the company hasn't ruled out securing more stock at favorable rates in future.

The bigger picture
Framework built its reputation on transparency: when costs went up in July, the company said so plainly. Doing the same in reverse—and actually cutting prices when a better deal came through—is the kind of behavior that's almost nonexistent among major laptop makers. For buyers tired of soldered components and opaque pricing, it reinforces why the modular repair economy is starting to look like a genuine alternative, not just an enthusiast niche.
