Honor Magic9 Super Edition packs an 11,000mAh battery into an 8mm chassis
Honor is about to launch a phone whose battery makes most Android flagships look like they're running on fumes. The Magic9 Super Edition reportedly packs an 11,000mAh cell — roughly double what the OnePlus 15 or a Motorola Razr Fold offers — into a chassis just 8mm thin and weighing 227g. For context, the baseline iPhone 17 manages around 3,000mAh. If Honor's specs hold up, this is the biggest battery-to-thickness ratio on a mainstream flagship phone right now.
The battery trick
Getting 11,000mAh into 8mm isn't magic — it's silicon-carbon battery technology. By pushing silicon density to around 32% in the anode material, Honor can store significantly more energy per cubic centimeter than standard lithium-ion cells allow. The company won a GLOMO Award at MWC 2026 for this tech, first demonstrated in the Magic V6. Charging is rated at 80W wired and 50W wireless, so refilling that enormous tank shouldn't take all morning.

The rest of the phone
The Super Edition runs Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 — the same chip generation powering several 2026 flagships — and Honor has added a built-in active cooling fan to keep sustained performance stable under gaming or heavy workloads, per GSMArena. The display is 6.8 inches with a 1.5K (2788×1280) resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. Camera hardware includes a 50MP main shooter, a 50MP 3× telephoto, and a 12MP ultrawide. A 50MP front camera rounds out the package.
Availability
The Magic9 Super Edition launches in China on September 28, with pre-orders already live there. Honor has not announced a US or UK release date, and none is expected at launch. Based on past Honor global rollouts — and typical Chinese OEM timelines — a Western release, if it happens at all, would likely follow six to eight weeks later, according to Archyde. No pricing has been disclosed for any market outside China.
The Super Edition is shaping up to be a genuine stress test for rivals who have struggled to break the 6,500mAh barrier in slim designs. Whether it reaches shelves in the US or UK remains to be seen.
