Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back announced for PS5, coming in 2027

Juliet Starling is back. Dragami Games, alongside Nada Holdings and JP Universe, officially announced Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back for PS5 at Tokyo Game Show 2026 — a direct sequel to the 2012 cult action game and its 2024 remaster, RePOP. The sequel is slated for 2027, currently as a PS5 exclusive, with no Xbox, PC, or Switch versions confirmed.

The franchise has more momentum behind it than you might expect. The series has crossed 1.5 million cumulative sales, and the RePOP remaster alone surpassed 400,000 units as of June 2026, per VGChartz — enough to greenlight a full sequel and boost the parent company's earnings by 52%.

The story

Juliet returns to her hometown of San Romero, only to find it has transformed into a sprawling metropolis called Jaredwood — now the center of a sinister film industry. A villain called the Director is trapping victims inside his horror movies, and Juliet becomes one of them. The goal: team up with fellow survivors, fight through monsters, and escape the "Corrupted Realm." The chainsaw is still attached.

The team

The creative lineup gives this sequel real credibility. Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy XV and CEO of developer JP Universe, leads the project. He's joined by Masahiro Yuki, co-producer and writer on the original Lollipop Chainsaw, and character artist NekoshowguN, who also worked on the first game. Early gameplay footage shown at TGS 2026 looks faithful to the original's tone — short skirt, chainsaw, her boyfriend's severed head on her belt. Fans of the 2012 game will recognize the vibe immediately, as Gematsu confirmed the full creative lineup alongside the reveal.

Availability

A playable demo was on the floor at TGS 2026. Sega is handling distribution for Japan and Southeast Asia, but no Western publisher or distributor has been announced yet — which means US and UK release logistics are still an open question. Pricing and a specific launch window within 2027 are also unconfirmed.

For now, Back2Back is PS5-only, which is a narrower platform bet than RePOP made. If you were hoping to play it on PC or Xbox, there's nothing to go on yet — watch for a Western publishing announcement in the months ahead.
