Samsung unveils Exynos W920: 5nm processor for Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic
Samsung announced a new processor for wearable electronics the day before the Galaxy Unpacked presentation.
What we know
The SoC is named Exynos W920. It is the successor to the Exynos 9110, which debuted three years ago with the original Galaxy Watch. The chip is built on Samsung's 5-nanometer process technology using ultraviolet lithography technology. It is equipped with two ARM Cortex-A55 cores and a Mali-G68 graphics accelerator. The new chip is 20% faster than the Exynos 9110 in the CPU benchmark, the company said. In addition, it boasts 10x more GPU performance.
The Exynos W920 supports screen resolutions up to 960 × 540p, 4G LTE modem, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), Wi-Fi b / g / n and Bluetooth 5.0. It also has an energy efficient Cortex-M55 coprocessor, which is responsible for the Always-on Display function.
When to expect
Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic smartwatches will be the first to receive Exynos W920. It is not known whether the new processor will be installed in devices from other manufacturers.
